Ashutosh Gowariker’s directorial debut, Pehla Nasha released in 1993. While the film starred Deepak Tijori in the lead role, it marked the union of Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan on the big screen, though both of them had a cameo. In 1994, Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Andaz Apna Apna released and that marked the union of Aamir Khan and Salman Khan on the big screen for the first time. The very next year in 1995 Rakesh Roshan’s blockbuster Karan Arjun released and that finally marked the union of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
Since then, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan have come together quite a few times but not once did the three of the biggest superstars of Indian cinema were seen sharing screen space. Since then there have been several speculations and fan requests to bring the trio together, but to no avail. And at various junctures the three of them have denied the possibility of them coming together citing lack of script and pointing out budgetary constraints.
But did you know a film, that released in 2002, was the first offered to the three of them. I am talking about Anupam Kher’s directorial debut, Om Jai Jagadish! The original cast for the film were Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan as Om, Jai and Jagadish, respectively.
According to IMDB, originally Yash Raj Films wanted to rope in director Anupam Kher with his script and also wished to produce it, on a condition that the director managed to rope in Aamir Khan (Om), Shahrukh Khan (Jai), Salman Khan (Jagadish), Kajol (Ayesha), Rani Mukerji (Neetu) and Preity Zinta (Pooja) playing the lead characters. However, surprisingly, all the actors declined the film stating date problems and the project was eventually produced by Vashu Bhagnani
What if they had signed the film, how different it would’ve been. Check out Om Jai Jagadish re-imagined poster here:
